I am posting this project for a specific worker--E Evert. If you are not this worker, please do not waste time reading this post.

I need a computer program created for use in a psychology experiment. It will be run on Windows-based laptop computers. The experiment examines when individuals express disagreement with behavior recommended by a group. The basic procedure is as follows: Participants fill out a questionnairs via computer. Then, participants believe they are reading short messages from 4 other participants in the room; these messages will appear on their screen in a chat-room-like format. In reality, this text will be pre-scripted, but it needs to look enough like a chat-room (without screennames) so that participants believe the messages are coming from other people in the room. After seeing four responses, participants type their own response, it appears on the screen. Finally, they complete one last survey.

In summary, the program will basically present text to participants, move forward when they click the “continue” button, and have a chat room-like appearance during the final part. The program will need to be very reliable and record all of participants’ responses in a tab delimited text file. Some of these responses will be clicking a bubble next to a number/choice (and the number they selected will need to be recorded in the file). Other responses will be text the participants write in.

The pages of text needed are described in the attached Word document.

The last piece of functionality required for the program is that it should save all of the options set by the experimenter and all of the participant’s responses to a tab-delimited text file.

Overall, I should stress that it is critical for the program to have a professional, and above all, believable appearance. Obviously participants must believe that they are reading responses from other people and sending a response others will read during the chat room conversation. I also expect this will be a collaborative effort between us: you will probably have questions for me, and similarly, I will likely have feedback and suggestions for you. I have given much thought to my experiment’s design and therefore have a very clear idea of what I need (as shown above, hopefully). Nevertheless, I need someone who is extremely attentive to detail, flexible, and willing to do deal with a reasonable amount of unforeseen issues and revisions if they arise as I test the program.

I would like to see a first version of the program some time during the week of 10/27, and need the program to be completely finished some time on Monday, November 3rd.

I was the one requested. :) This bid must contain 100 characters, 100 characters is a lot when you don't really have much to say.
