Kurzbeschreibung des Wettbewerbs

Design will be used on t-shirts, posters, etc...

Using an historic map of New York City add caricatures illustrating the events of the year 1776. The full map is provided in different versions as well as cropped versions with the placements indicated. You may decide which map to use.

The final design should use only the area seen in the cropped version; how it is positioned is up to you. The design should say "New York City" and "1776" in an old style serif typeface.

Pictures of the events are provided as a guide; your caricatures/illustrations do not have to look like these pictures and do not need as many people in them. Do the minimum needed to represent the event. I am looking for simplicity, creativity and uniqueness! The final design should be fun as well as historically accurate.

In addition, please place a cartoon illustration of me (file: KarenQ) somewhere in the design - you can decide where it fits best.

Here is a description of what goes where. Using the file "map placements" as a guide:

A. reading the declaration of independence. Soldiers can be standing and/or on horseback while declaration is read. File: A-declaration 1 A-declaration 2

B. sons of liberty hanging someone on the liberty pole File: B-tory

C. city hall and soldiers Files:C-City Hall; C-soldiers

D. tearing down king's statue File:D-george statue

E. Gen. Washing crossing from Brooklyn to NY File: E-crossing

F. File: KarenQ

I've attached two different maps. Each has a version with the illustration placements indicated and a higher resolution version to be used in the final graphic design.

I realize this is a lot to do so I will accept two illustrations as your contest entry (A-declaration and B-tory on the map of your choice) and award the prize from those. The winner can then finish the project with the remaining illustrations and graphic design.

In addition to the final design I would like to receive the illustrations as separate files. (for possible future use)

    To the illustrators out there: if you'd like to submit a preliminary sketch for feedback before submitting a final entry, I'll be happy to direct you from there. As I said, I realize this is a lot of work, so am willing to help in any way I can. That way, if it's not what I'm looking for, I can tell you right up front. Also, if you'd like to use the maps as a basis for an illustrated map, that's alright, too.

      Well, you're very kind to be concerned, but I currently have clients who actually do want their jobs completing and are paying me to do them - so my request isn't for any personal benefit for my own. Quite the contrary. Yourself providing visual examples of the sort of cartoon style you have in mind would simply be of benefit to those who do have the time to waste. However, if you can't be bothered to accommodate even so rudimentary a request, the loss I assure you is entirely yours own.

      True - there are. Thousands. I'm currently completing final work for two of them. But watching the pair of you squirm - unconvincingly - far more entertaining. And - who knows - might actually do the contest holder some actual good knowing how "honestly" she's been advised: "nobody can get any content or stock caricatures from the web for a contest like this" - my backside... : )

    "Seal" purpose is to avoid adapting, modifying the ideas of others because they are not illustrators indeed. Notice that a few will join this contest compared to Logo CH. I know you get the point. How much easily anyone can use templates. Yet it's on the CH's end after all. No matter how stupid the winner's entry to many.
