Statement of Needs – Business Stationery Design
Summary (for the designer)
Create a bright, modern, typography-forward stationery system for an experienced CPA that feels clean and minimal, communicates trust and clarity, and subtly signals innovation (including preparedness for AI-driven business change). The identity should be primarily black with optional neutral grays, avoid anything whimsical, and print reliably on Epson WorkForce inkjet office printers.
Deliverables (at a glance): letterhead (page 1), continuation sheet (page 2+), #10 envelope, business card.
Project overview
Design a simple, fresh, modern stationery suite for an experienced CPA. The visual identity should communicate trust, clarity, and professionalism while signaling forward-looking insight—positioning the firm as a bridge between established financial wisdom and modern innovation in today’s rapidly changing business environment, including the impact of artificial intelligence on companies at all levels.
Deliverables
• Letterhead (Page 1 layout) — US Letter (8.5 in × 11 in)
• Letterhead continuation sheet (Page 2+ layout) — US Letter (8.5 in × 11 in)
• #10 envelope design — 4.125 in × 9.5 in
• Business card design — standard US size (3.5 in × 2 in), front-only by default (optional back if needed)
Style / tone direction
• Overall look: clean, minimal, and contemporary; “simple yet fresh.”
• Professional and credible (CPA/trust-focused), with a subtle modern edge (innovation-forward).
• Timeless rather than trendy; avoid visual clutter, gimmicks, or overly “techy” motifs.
• Strong typography and whitespace; design should reproduce well in print and PDF.
• Color palette: primarily black with optional neutral grays; avoid bright accent colors unless explicitly approved later.
• Typography: clean, professional fonts only—nothing whimsical, playful, or “cutesy.” Consider classic, highly readable serif/sans-serif pairings.
Brand message to convey
• A bridge between established wisdom and modern innovation.
• Confident guidance through complexity (“intelligent navigation through the maze”).
• Preparation for the future of business as AI reshapes fundamentals across industries.
• Unparalleled value: seasoned judgment paired with current thinking.
Paper & printing recommendations
• Letterhead (Epson WorkForce inkjet-friendly): bright white, smooth uncoated paper optimized for inkjet so black text prints crisp without feathering. Use 24 lb as the default for reliable feeding; consider 28 lb only if your printers handle heavier stock well. Aim for high brightness (about 92–96) and good opacity.
• Safe default (recommended starting point): 24 lb bright white, smooth uncoated inkjet business paper (high brightness ~92–96). This is a reliable choice for crisp black text and consistent feeding on Epson WorkForce printers.
• Paper types to consider (bright/modern): “inkjet business paper” / “premium inkjet paper” in 24 lb, or a matte inkjet presentation paper if you want an extra-crisp, more premium look (test first for feed reliability and dry time).
• Envelopes: matching bright white, smooth wove (#10). If you plan to print envelopes in-office, choose envelopes specifically rated for your printer type and keep artwork away from edges to reduce smearing and misfeeds (many firms print envelopes through a print shop for best consistency).
• Business cards: typically produced by a print shop on bright white, heavier uncoated cover stock (commonly 110–130 lb cover) for a substantial feel. If you ever need to print temporary cards in-office, use a smooth, heavy cardstock designed for your printer, but treat that as a short-term stopgap.
• Office-print reliability tips (Epson inkjet): match the printer’s paper type setting to the actual paper (this strongly affects sharpness and dry time). Since you’ll print single-sided, you can prioritize feed reliability and crispness without worrying about duplex alignment—still test-print a few pages to confirm clean edges (no feathering) and smudge resistance.
• Low-ink coverage (recommended): keep letterhead graphics minimal (logo/wordmark + light rules or small accents) and avoid large solid fills. This reduces dry time/smudging on inkjet printers and keeps the look crisp and modern.
• Finish options (optional): for subtle differentiation without adding color, consider soft-touch matte on business cards, or a restrained emboss/deboss on the wordmark only (keep it minimal; avoid glossy effects).
• Printing approach: design should look excellent in 1-color black (with optional gray). Provide versions suitable for both professional offset/digital print and high-quality office printing.
Practical requirements / inputs
• No existing logo currently. Please propose a simple, typography-led logo/wordmark (and optional monogram) that can stand alone in black/gray and scale well for letterhead and business cards.
• Include clear placeholders for: name, credentials (CPA), title, phone, email, website, and office address.
• Provide print-ready files (PDF) and editable source files (e.g., AI/INDD) for each item.
• Design should work in both color and high-quality black-and-white printing.
• Provide a primary 1-color version (black) and a secondary grayscale version (if used), plus guidance on minimum sizes/clear space for the wordmark.
