My experience covers...I build web applications that handle real traffic without falling apart. After eight years of professional development, I've seen enough projects struggle with scaling to know that performance and architecture decisions matter from day one, not just when things start breaking under load. My experience covers full-stack development—frontend interfaces, backend APIs, database design, and deployment infrastructure. This breadth matters because understanding how all the pieces fit together helps you make better decisions about each individual component. When you know how the database query affects frontend rendering performance, you write different code. Frontend development for me means React and TypeScript. I build component-based interfaces that are maintainable and reusable, implement responsive designs that work properly across device sizes, optimize bundle sizes and loading performance because slow applications lose users, handle complex application state without making it incomprehensible, and write code that passes code review without needing major rewrites. I've worked on everything from simple marketing sites to complex dashboard applications with real-time data updates. On the backend, I design RESTful APIs that follow consistent patterns, implement authentication and authorization properly instead of rolling custom security that will definitely have holes, validate and sanitize all inputs thoroughly, structure code so adding features doesn't require rewriting everything, write tests that actually catch bugs instead of just existing to hit coverage targets, and document technical decisions so future developers understand why things work the way they do. Database work is where many applications hit performance walls. I use PostgreSQL primarily, designing normalized schemas for data integrity and denormalizing strategically for read performance, writing efficient queries with proper joins and indexes, implementing connection pooling to handle concurrent requests, monitoring query performance to catch problems before they become critical, and handling schema migrations carefully on production databases. I've also worked with Redis for caching and MongoDB when document storage was appropriate. Infrastructure work includes Docker containerization, AWS deployment using EC2, RDS, and S3, CI/CD pipeline setup with GitHub Actions or GitLab CI, basic monitoring and logging implementation, and handling the deployment needs of most web applications without requiring a dedicated DevOps team. Available for contract projects or full-time remote positions. I work well with distributed teams, communicate clearly in writing, and provide realistic estimates based on actual effort required rather than optimistic guesses. weniger
