App slow search problem

Dear sir,
I have app that search in local database with auto search functionality. The app takes long time to return search results from local database (There about 12000 records in db), so I want app to return search results faster.
There is similar iOS app called alftwa that I believe using limits to make search faster. The app has auto search functionality like my app, so results show as user type in search field and return only 16 search results and when user scroll page down, app load another 16 results and so on.
