I thought your idea for this project was pretty sweet, so I spent the better half of a day writing a story. I can't paste it all within this document, but here is the beginning. It's a bit of a love story. Hope you enjoy.
Iridescent Dreams
"It was in 1825 when I first heard of her. Her name, as exotic and enchanting as her form, was just a siren’s song, carried across the cold Atlantic sea by weary sun-struck sailors. They whispered half-mad of her iridescent hues, her ability to hover, fly backwards and even upside-down. “She’s akin to a tiny, flyin’ nectar-gathering rainbow”, they said, and I believed them. With intent to capture her beauty by setting pen to parchment, I found passage on an exploratory voyage to South America.
And so I left London town, braving the tumult of rough seas and the even rougher men who sail them. Many were the terrors that we faced upon our journey. Scurvy, pirates, and storms ripped both life and limb from our ranks. However, after months of open ocean, lice-ridden and half-starved, we eventually reached our destination. Although the men rejoiced in the bounty of the land and people of Brazil, my hunger could not be satiated by the comforts they found there. The song of the hummingbird continued to haunt my dreams. I could not rest until I found her.
Warm sultry air caressed my skin as I climbed into the thick green tangle of forest arching upwards beyond the village. . . "
