Why are different people affected differently from the same trauma? Three children from the same broken, dysfunctional home: one has a lifetime of crime and drug abuse, another becomes a nun, and the third has a normal life. They all were mistreated equally. Why the different reactions? Therein lies the real story. Obviously, the children had, for want of a more clinical explanation; different inherited constitutions. Their coping skills and ego strengths were different.
Unfortunately, no amount of psychobabble erases the experienced pain and emotional scaring.
There is, no doubt, catharsis in telling the story, and I would be happy to participate.
