Hello! Most layer7 attacks, like the one you just described, come from particular countries. I can just blackhole your server for them and you will be safe. There is also a chance that you are using WP and then there is a well known exploit that needs taking a special care because no anti-ddos can save you in such case. But I can not guarantee that you will be good protected after that, because it depends a lot on type of attack you are having.
