We are in the final stages of developing an Android app for a non-profit that sends users an inspirational message in the form of a picture at sunset each day. The message is sent via a notification popup at the time of sunset locally, and users have the ability to share or dismiss the notification. Users also have the option to go to the website to read the latest blog. The app needs to be light, and battery sparing, so while location is needed to set the sunset time initially, it should not trigger the gps to run continuously, or it will be a battery hog. The app needs to be light and responsive, but should be a very simple application to develop.
While this first application will be designed to send the notification at sunset for a specific non-profit use, I'd like to develop it in a way that it can be easily adapted for other non-profits in the education sector - sending specific information on a pre-defined schedule. In these later scenarios, the notification will not be associated with sunset, but will instead be delivered at a specific time or day.
