Hi, I'm Alex and I'd like to do this project for you. I have 5 years experience building web applications using Node, Ruby and HTML/JS so I can guarantee deliverability and high quality of the finished product. I intend to use Node.js as a base for the backend with Express as application framework. To enforce authentication I will setup Passport which will allow regular user/password authentication as well as Oauth based authentication (Twiter, Facebook, Google). As a database I believe MongoDB should make a fine choice as the model is not complex and Mongo is extremely fast when few relations are defined in the data model. As model we have users and stories; users can vote stories up or down. The node server will expose a JSON API to the HTML client through which data is exchanged. To ensure code quality I intend to use testing libraries such as karma for unit testing and protractor for end to end tests. With unit and integration (end to end) tests you will have a very strong and automated way of checking the app's quality. Overall, with Node and Mongo on the back end and an AngularJS HTML/JS client in the front end the app should be impressively fast and quite easy to maintain and further extend should the need arise. Reading the description, I understand that there will be: - Homepage with stories/news ordered by votes. - Sign up/Sign in forms - User can vote a story positively or negatively only once and only if signed in - Stories will be categorized by topic Honestly, I think that $3000-$5000 is too much for what you ask. Unless I'm missing something or description is not complete, I can do the above with $1700 in two weeks. If you assign the project to me, please note that mockups or at least some screens' sketches and workflows will be needed. Beware of this, what you ask is a custom web application, wordpress is not for your case! Furthermore, comparing PHP to Ruby on Rails, I strongly believe that Rails is superior as the development is much faster and cheaper, the codebase is more clean, thus easy-maintenable and is hack-safe.
