Google Gears is an extension/plugin, [login to view URL] This job is only concerned with the firefox version. Later jobs will address IE too. We'd like to use the gears db capabilities inside our own extension. We've already identified some of the steps involved: * copy components/[login to view URL] components/[login to view URL] into the root of our own extension. * Add an entry to the [login to view URL] database The problem we're facing is that when we do the above gears works fine for pages on localhost -- file://..., but not when invoked from the extentsion -- chrome://. We can give you more details about what we've tried. Your job is to figure a way around this issue. To see that your solution works, do the following: 1. Download the hello world sample extension. 2. When the menu button is used, instead of popping a window, do some kind of db operation (select count(*) from foo) and display the result in a javascript alert. Informed questions about this task are welcome.
