Attached you will a VISIO diagram of my network and a graphical representation of it. Summary: I have a CISCO PIX 501 acting as a firewall for my internal network and router. My primary network server is a Windows 2000 Advanced Server (IP 192.168.1.4.) It is also acting as a DHCP server and DNS server. Both are set up correctly. Problem: At random intervals my client machines disconnect from the network. When this happen I cannot ping the server from the client machine nor can I reach shares on the client machine via the server. The "blackout" can last a few seconds or 10 or 15 minutes. Sometimes I cannot reach other machines on my network from the machine that has disconnected. Nothing significant shows in the log files of the disconnected machine except entries saying it has lost connectivity to the server if the black out lasts a long time. Since my Windows 2000 PDC acts as a DNS server, I lose access to the internet as well. After careful analysis I found out EVERY time a machine disconnects from the network, the PIX is denying certain traffic on the inside network. Those logs are attached. As far as I can tell the traffic being denied are RPC and Net Bios calls. I don't know how to prevent the PIX from dis-allowing this traffic or if I should. I think I may need to purchase a router for my internal network. Note: When viewing the PIX log file I was concentrating on one client machine and it's IP is [login to view URL] Goal: To either be successfuly advised how to solve this solution through hardware purchase or how to edit my PIX so it will allow the traffic to go through. Note: The diagram shows the client machines as having static IPs. They are not static but DHCP derived. However at the time of the graphic those are what the IPs are.
## Deliverables
1) Deliver a successful solution via consultation on hardware purchase. 2) Deliver successful solution based off how to allow traffic through the firewall.
## Platform
