xPL is a Home Automation protocol developed in the UK.

I want to conform to this protocol.
I want to send and receive bytes of data between the LAN and the LPT port.
The data may originate from the same PC...
LAN based, as it is... A port address must be specified.
Most PCs only have one LPT parallel port anyway, but I want no unnecessary limits. An LPT port must be specified.
Bi-directional communications required.
I will use this in Windows 98se or XP Pro, at first. Later I plan to move to Linux...
I would like an Icon on the tray (near the clock) that offers three choices: Enable/disable, Setup, and About.
Enable should have a checkmark next to it, etc.
The setup screen will allow entry of the Ethernet Port and the LPT Port.
The about screen will show the above information, IP address, the software's version number, and my contact info.
An install package, if necessary.
This will likely become open source.
As such I can't afford to be too generous, so keep it cheap boys and girls!
