Ghibli-Inspired AI Animation Project

I’m producing a short AI-assisted animation that pays homage to Studio Ghibli while adding a fresh, modern twist. The piece hinges equally on three pillars—lively character animation, richly painted background scenery, and tasteful special effects—so each scene needs to feel hand-crafted yet still flow from one to the next like a traditional film. For the characters, I want a mixed style: keep the expressive eyes, fluid motion, and warmth of classic Ghibli, but don’t hesitate to introduce sharper modern lines or stylised proportions where the story calls for it. Backgrounds should be just as adventurous; whether the moment unfolds in a lush forest, a bustling city street, or an other-worldly dreamscape, the visual language has to remain cohesive and cinematic. I’m open to whichever tools let us achieve that look—hand-drawn keys refined in TVPaint, AI-generated paint-overs in Stable Diffusion or Midjourney, compositing in After Effects, or a hybrid pipeline you’re comfortable with. What matters is that the final cut feels organic, not procedurally stitched together.
