Android News Portal Apps

I already run a WordPress-based news site and want to turn it into a pair of Android apps—one for the public and one for my field reporters—while keeping the existing WordPress installation as the single source of truth. Here’s the vision • User app Readers open the app, browse stories by the same categories that exist on the website, receive push notifications for breaking headlines, and leave comments that sync back to WordPress comments. • Reporter app Accredited reporters log in, file stories with photos or video directly from their phones, track the editorial status of each submission, and get push alerts when an article is approved, needs edits, or goes live. Key points – Android only for the first release, but I’d like the code structured so an iOS build could be added later without a ground-up rewrite (Flutter, React Native or a clean Kotlin architecture are all fine with me). – The apps must pull and post data through the standard WordPress REST API; no changes to my existing site other than any plugins you need to install. – Push notifications can run through Firebase Cloud Messaging or another reliable service. – Lean budget, so clear milestones are essential: 1) API integration & basic UI, 2) reporter submission flow, 3) user commenting & category browsing, 4) notification wiring, 5) final polish plus Play Store–ready builds.
