It is different code than common serial communication which is 8bit. For 9bit you should set the Serial. begin(baud, true) or any serial definition on hardwareserial. h file, e. g. : Serial. begin(baud, SERIA_9N1) for 9bit data + 1 stop bit. That's it. And the other functions of serial such as read() etc would be the same.
