TO BE REWRITTEN: History of Ed-Med Federal Credit Union Ed-Med Federal Credit Union was chartered as Ogdensburg Public School Employees Federal Credit Union on July 31st, 1959 to serve the employees of the Board of Education of the Ogdensburg City School District. In December 1974, the charter was expanded to include the employees of the Board of Education of the Morristown Central School District. In May 1979, the charter was expanded to include the employees of the Board of Education of the Hammond Central School District. A.B.H.H. Employees Federal Credit Union was chartered to serve the employees of A. Barton Hepburn Hospital on January 5th, 1970. In May 1982, the charter was expanded to include the employees of the United Helpers Organization and St. Joseph’s Home. In November 1987, the charter was expanded to include the employees of the St. Lawrence County Community Development Program. In September 2007, the charter of Ed-Med Federal Credit Union was expanded to include the employees of the Board of Education of the Lisbon Central School District. From 1983 through 2003, both the Ogdensburg Public School Employees Federal Credit Union and the A.B.H.H Employees Federal Credit Union were operating as two credit unions under the same roof with the same staff of one and later two. On January 1, 2004, the A.B.H.H. Employees Federal Credit Union merged into the Ogdensburg Public School Employees Federal Credit Union thus ending the charter of A.B.H.H. Employees Federal Credit Union. This change was quite seamless to the memberships of both credit unions since nothing appeared different. On October 1st, 2006, the Ogdensburg Public School Employees Federal Credit Union underwent two significant changes; we moved our office from a personal residence (which it had been in for 27 years) to its own free-standing office and our name was officially changed to Ed-Med Federal Credit Union. In March 2007, we also expanded to add a third employee. The name was chosen by our board of directors after asking our members for suggestions. Three members submitted the name Ed-Med (for Education and Medical) and our board of directors loved the sound of the alliteration of Ed/Med/Fed/Cred and thought that it would be a name that would let our community know who we are and who we serve. From the humble beginnings of $5.00 deposits from a few employees of the Ogdensburg City School District and A. Barton Hepburn Hospital, our credit union now has over 2200 members and assets over $26,000,000. We have never given up our charter members original goal of people helping people and keeping our field of membership contained within the occupational common bond of education and medical employees.
