I’m creating a picture book and need a talented watercolor artist to breathe life into the pages. The look I’m after is unmistakably hand-painted: soft washes, visible brush textures and a warm, inviting palette. I want a moderate level of detail, clear character expressions, recognizable backgrounds and a few playful touches, without the visuals becoming so intricate that they overwhelm young readers. The storyline follows our cats meeting each other for the first time, and their fears and insecurties because they are special needs. Your job is to interpret each moment faithfully, keep the style consistent throughout the book and deliver artwork that is ready for print. Deliverables • Page-by-page or spread-based watercolor illustrations (exact count to be confirmed together) • High-resolution CMYK finals (PSD or TIFF) plus web-ready RGB versions • Clean 600 dpi scans or layered digital files for my designer’s layout work • A simple colour palette and character sheet to lock down consistency Acceptance criteria • Genuine watercolor texture—no flat digital fills • Consistent proportions and facial features across scenes • Print-ready files that pass a pre-press check without colour shift or cropping issues When you reply, please share relevant watercolor samples, especially anything showing aimals in real-world situations, and outline a timeline you’d anticipate for a standard 32-page picture book. I’m ready to begin as soon as I find the right illustrator and am happy to answer any questions about the manuscript or layout. Pictures of our cats attached.

Hi there, your project immediately caught my eye. I love the warmth and honesty in the idea of two special needs cats meeting for the first time, and watercolor feels like the perfect medium to capture their expressions, their little insecurities, and the softness of the world around them. With more than eight years of experience as an illustration artist, I have worked on children’s books where gentle textures, expressive characters, and consistent visual storytelling are essential. My watercolor style leans toward soft washes, visible brush textures and warm palettes, which seems to match exactly what you are looking for. I pay close attention to character consistency, especially in books where emotions play a big role, so their faces and proportions stay true from page to page. I can prepare both the high resolution CMYK finals and clean layered files your designer will need, and I am careful with pre press requirements so the colors hold up in print without surprises. For a standard thirty two page picture book, my usual timeline is steady and clear. First I create the color palette and character sheet, then move into page concepts and thumbnails. Once those are approved, I paint the full illustrations and deliver both print ready and web versions. The full process typically takes a few weeks depending on the final page count and level of detail you prefer. Hi! I work with genuine watercolor techniques—soft washes, visible brush texture, and controlled layering—to keep the illustrations warm and hand-painted. For a story like this, I’d focus on clear character expressions, gentle body language, and familiar environments so children can easily follow the emotions of the cats as they meet and navigate their fears. Consistency across pages is very important to me, so I’d establish character sheets and a limited palette early on and carry that through the entire book. This sounds like a beautiful and meaningful story to illustrate. Watercolor is especially well-suited for themes like first meetings, vulnerability, and emotional warmth, and I appreciate that you want the artwork to stay expressive and textured without overwhelming young readers. I can deliver high-resolution, print-ready CMYK files (PSD or TIFF), along with RGB versions for web use, and clean 600-dpi scans or layered digital files suitable for your designer’s layout process. I’ll also include a simple palette and character reference to lock down visual consistency. You can view relevant illustration work here: https://www.freelancer.com./u/mzishohag Before outlining a precise timeline, could you share whether the book will be full-page illustrations or a mix of single pages and spreads? And do you have a preferred schedule or budget range in mind for a 32-page book? I’d be happy to answer any questions and begin as soon as you’re ready. Md Shohag

Hello! I am interested in working on your picture book project and would like to bring the story to life through hand-drawn watercolor illustrations. My style of work features soft washes of color, visible brush textures, and a warm, child-friendly color palette, which is perfect for picture books. My main goal will be to faithfully portray each scene, keep the character's expressions clear, and maintain the same style throughout the book—so that the illustrations are interesting for children but not overly complex. I look forward to working with you. Here is my Portfolio: https://www.freelancer.in/u/mondalripon1999?sb=t Warmly, Ripon M.
