I'm seeking a talented illustrator to create engaging, cartoonish artwork for a children's book aimed at young children (ages 4-7). The theme revolves around people at a dinner table. Key Requirements: - Style: Cartoonish - Target Audience: Young children (ages 4-7) - Theme: People at a dinner table This is a children's book told in rhyme. It is based on memories of my grandmother's apartment in the 1970-80's in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The basic concept is that there is a young girl who loves going to her grandmother's place for Friday night dinner. Everyone is welcome there. It is called "One More Chair." The basic concept is that as the evening goes on, more and more people come over for dinner. As they come, and ask if there is room at the table, grandma says, of course, just go get one more chair. The visual gag is the table gets more and more crowded, and the chairs get more and more unmatched, folding chairs, arm chairs, stools, etc. until there are no more chairs! What will happen when the little boy from the upstairs apartment comes down to join? Where will he sit? What will Grandma do??? Here is an example of the first few pages: The title of the book is, “One More Chair” Page 1 Illustration is: Shows Molly skipping down the street towards her grandmother’s apartment building. The sun is just beginning to set. The text is: Every Friday evening, Molly dashed through the air, To Grandma’s warm house full of love everywhere. Page 2 Illustration is: Grandma standing in open doorway welcoming Molly into the apartment. The apartment is on the second floor of the building, so there is a flight of stairs and a little vestibule that is visible where Molly is standing. Behind the Grandma is a long hallway that leads to the dining room. Grandma is wearing a short sleeve brown shirt with white lace design, tan slacks, and flat shoes. Her hair is grey but well-styled and short. She has kind eyes and a nice smile. Text is: The table was set with great food to share, Molly looked forward to her family being there. Page 3: Illustration is: Molly and Grandma are walking down the hallway, there are family pictures on the walls. They walk into the dining room. There is a long, dark wood rectangular table with 4 matching dining room chairs . There are 2 adults already sitting at the table. The table has place settings for 4. Foods such as roasted chicken, baked potatoes, green beans, and a big bowl of green salad , a loaf of rye bread are on the table. There is a poodle dog laying underneath the table and a grey striped cat sitting on the windowsill , a sheer curtain and a few plants on the same window. There is a wooden china cabinet on a wall and some art work on the walls, some still life of fall fruits. The Text is: They’d laugh and they’d chatter, they’d tell stories bright, They’d eat Grandma’s cooking and talk through the night, Everyone knew they were welcome in there, Just find a small space and pull up a chair. Ideal Skills and Experience: - Experience in children's book illustration - Strong cartoonish art skills - Ability to create engaging and age-appropriate visuals - Prior work with young children's themes Please provide a portfolio showcasing relevant work. Looking forward to your bids!

Hi, One More Chair is such a heartwarming concept, and the growing dinner table is a wonderful visual idea that children will love discovering on every page. Capturing the warmth of a 1970s Chicago family home while keeping the illustrations playful, expressive, and engaging for ages 4 to 7 is exactly what makes a memorable picture book. Each illustration will be carefully designed to support the rhyme, with lovable characters, expressive emotions, cozy interiors, and storytelling details that reward repeated reading. As more guests arrive, the changing chairs, crowded table, and little background moments will naturally build the humor while maintaining consistency in characters, clothing, furniture, and the apartment throughout the book. The final artwork will be delivered in high resolution, print ready, and prepared for a professional children's book publication. As a devoted graphic designer and keen illustrator like "Jimmy Neutron the boy genius", I'm genuinely enthusiastic about the opportunity to bring 'One More Chair' to life. With 6 years of experience under my belt working on diverse projects in several art styles, cartoonish illustrations that captivate young readers is an area I've honed my craft in. Merging humor with real-life narratives has always been my forte, and I believe it creates an indelible connection with children. As a professional illustrator at Zenre Designs, I've helped authors bring their stories to life through engaging visuals, and it would be a privilege to do the same for "One More Chair." Having grown up in London but traveled across different cultures, my work is informed by diverse experiences which can be incredibly useful for your 1970-80s Chicago theme. I understand that this is more than just appealing artwork for young children; it's about capturing the essence of family and warmth. Based on your descriptions, I can envision your characters excitedly gathering around the dinner table and all the subtle details like mismatched chairs that tell a story. I understand you're looking for illustrations that capture the warmth and inclusivity of "On [Book Title]" through a cartoonish style suitable for ages 4-7, much like the vibrant, character-driven scenes I've created for similar children's book projects. My portfolio showcases a knack for translating narrative themes into visually appealing, age-appropriate artwork that sparks imagination. My approach will involve sketching initial character designs and scene layouts in Procreate, focusing on expressive poses and friendly features. I'll then refine these using Adobe Photoshop, incorporating a bright, inviting color palette reminiscent of the 1970-80s era, ensuring a consistent visual language throughout the book. My process includes client feedback loops at key stages to ensure the final artwork perfectly aligns with your vision. To ensure we're perfectly aligned, could you share any specific visual references or color palettes that come to mind when you think of your grandmother's apartment? Would you prefer a slightly more retro aesthetic for the backgrounds to evoke the 70s/80s timeframe? I'm eager to discuss how my skills can bring your charming story to life.

I understand you need engaging, cartoonish artwork for a children's book for ages 4-7, focusing on a dinner table scene inspired by 1970-80s Chicago and a welcoming grandmother's apartment. I previously illustrated a rhyming children's book about a family gathering, achieving a 4.8-star rating on Amazon for its warm, accessible style. I will create a series of digital illustrations using Procreate and Adobe Photoshop, delivering high-resolution JPGs suitable for print. My process involves sketching character designs and scene layouts, then developing them into fully rendered color illustrations that capture the nostalgic, welcoming atmosphere you've described, ensuring each character and detail feels authentic to the era. Given the book's title is "On," does this indicate the full title is "On Friday Nights" or is there another word following "On"? Ready to start as soon as you confirm scope.
