Guidelines for projects

Background: A Forum was held on 18 March, attended by Secondary and Tertiary students. Part of the forum was a breakout session where the students came up with their own ideas on how to make the internet a better place. We want to help them to bring these ideas to fruition, but they need guidance. The idea is to guide them, but not tell them. The items listed below will be loaded up online, for these students to access to figure out what they can or want to do. For the most part, these students are already very much aware of the issues discussed at the forum - cyberbullying; excessive screen time; discernment, so we won’t have to delve into those issues again. Here’s what we need: (A) PROJECT DESCRIPTIONS Very minimal research needed. (Eg: you might need to google “National Steps Challenge” to figure out what it’s about - that sort of thing) For 11 individual project proposals: 1. Punchy Name for project 2. Flesh out the descriptions. Tone: Youthful, energetic, inspirational if possible (but keeping in mind that we’re talking to a bunch of cynical teens, so don’t dial up the inspiration too much) Purpose: What we want to do is to make them want work on the project. We need to flesh out the description To note: If there are any references to commercial items (eg: commercial apps), we need to replace them with just descriptions of what these items do instead. There are no parameters on what style of writing you want to use. Full paragraphs / bullet-points / whatever works - just make sure there’s consistency across the 11 projects. The information on hand for each of these 11 proposals is very bare-bones at the moment. Simply bullet points on the gist of what these proposals intend. (B) OVERALL PROJECT DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT GUIDELINES This is separate from part (A) above. Purpose: We need to guide these kids through what it takes to develop and manage a project from start to finish. So we’re looking at guidelines that can be used for most projects. Eg: Defining Your Target Audience The more defined your target audience, the more likely you will have an effective campaign. How do you define your target audience? One way is to look at demographics (explain demographics), but a more effective way might be to look at psychographics (explain too) These guidelines should also encompass things such as: - goal setting - possible avenues to approach for help (eg: governmental agencies / business associations, that sort of thing, as long as they're not commercial) - Project management guidelines such as setting project timelines etc. We will provide you with a booklet that you can refer to for information for this section, so research will only be required for sections in which we want to point them towards potential resources. We need to keep it simple, keeping in mind that these are Sec school students with possibly little to no experience with developing projects like this.
