A display of the final linear equation Create a class for linear regression First, figure out how to solve the problem by hand. For details on how linear regression works and what formulas you need to use in your software, refer to the following video lecture series and PowerPoint. presentation: [login to view URL] (Links to an external site.) Here are the key equations needed for linear regression: Key EquationsPreview the document. Create a stand-alone class that does the regression analysis (use project-> add class). This class should have variables like the x and y data arrays, filename, coefficients of the regression, flags to ensure the data exists etc. It should have functions that calculate the various sums and products needed for your calculations, a function to compute the coefficients, functions to read the file and fill in the data, function to compute y array given x array etc. Once your class has been completed and tested (without the use of GUI). Create a variable in your GUI of the class and fill in and create the user experience for using your class. From the examples from different majors given in the lecture series above, choose one of the examples and show that your program generates the same answers. The data should be a text file with an x and y value per line of data. For now, make it so the maximum data size you can have is 50 values. Collect or get some data of your own choosing and test your code out. Do your predicted values make sense? Report / Video Requirements: Write a report that summarizes your experience and experiments along with your ideas on where and how such a software system might be useful—explain it in terms of the big picture lecture. Explain also how these simple programming techniques could be used in a variety of scientific and engineering fields. Your report should have at least sections of: abstract, introduction, methods/software, results, discussion/conclusions etc. as appropriate. There is no requirement on the length of the report (a shorter/longer report does not mean that it is better). About a 7-10 page report (not including code) is reasonable. In the report, show snaps shots of key portions of the code/GUI and explain the working of the code. Also, create a mini-manual of how to use your class. In the report appendix, place all your code, neatly structured and well commented. This can be the same between members. You may add your own additional comments to the code. The key is to demonstrate your understanding of the algorithms used, basic programming constructs, and GUI used. In your report, include all relevant graphs and illustrations to support your results, discussion, and conclusion. Presentation style (clarity, etc.) is a major component of a report. Extra Credit 5%: Allow the choosing of a non-linear regression method that uses an exponential model
