Building Performance Analyst (Energy Intelligence & Data Analytics) About Peak Energy Solutions Peak Energy Solutions is a rapidly growing Canadian energy optimization company helping commercial and industrial facilities reduce operating costs through data analytics, engineering, monitoring systems, HVAC optimization, refrigeration optimization, and AI-driven building performance. We are building the next generation of Building Performance Intelligence and are looking for someone who loves solving problems using data. About the Role We're looking for a highly analytical individual who enjoys working with large datasets to uncover hidden opportunities for energy savings and operational improvements. This is not a traditional engineering role. Instead, you'll analyze building performance data, identify trends, investigate anomalies, and develop reports that help customers reduce energy costs. You'll work closely with our engineering team to transform raw building data into actionable recommendations. Typical Data You'll Analyze You'll work with information including: Electrical consumption Demand profiles Circuit-level monitoring HVAC runtime Refrigeration systems Temperature sensors Humidity sensors CO₂ sensors Utility bills Weather data Occupancy information Equipment schedules Water consumption Gas consumption You'll often be comparing weeks, months, buildings, and portfolios to identify hidden opportunities. Responsibilities Analyze building performance data from multiple sources. Identify energy-saving opportunities. Identify abnormal equipment operation. Detect demand spikes and determine root causes. Analyze HVAC performance. Analyze refrigeration performance. Compare similar buildings. Normalize energy use against weather. Develop customer-facing reports. Prepare executive summaries. Create charts and dashboards. Identify operational improvements. Recommend engineering actions. Assist in developing AI rules for PeakIQ. Continuously improve reporting templates. Examples of Projects Some examples of work include: Grocery Store Analyze compressor energy before and after control changes. Determine actual savings. Identify refrigeration optimization opportunities. Recommend additional improvements. Manufacturing Facility Determine why demand charges increased. Identify equipment causing spikes. Recommend startup sequencing. Commercial Building Analyze HVAC runtime versus occupancy. Identify scheduling opportunities. Estimate annual savings. Portfolio Analysis Compare 25 buildings. Rank them from highest to lowest opportunity. Prioritize engineering efforts. Example Insights We Expect Rather than simply saying: "Energy increased 8%." We're looking for insights such as: RTU-6 operated 3.5 hours beyond occupied hours, representing an estimated annual savings opportunity of $4,300. Or Refrigeration compressors cycled significantly more often during mild weather, suggesting floating head pressure optimization. Or Building demand spikes occur every weekday at 8:05 AM due to simultaneous startup of HVAC and refrigeration equipment. Or Humidity averaged only 34%, indicating anti-sweat heater controls could be reduced. We're looking for someone who naturally asks: Why? Required Skills Strong analytical thinking. Excellent Excel skills. Experience with large datasets. Power BI experience. Data visualization. Statistics. Excellent report writing. Strong English communication. Attention to detail. Ability to explain technical concepts simply.
