Freelance Site Welding QC Inspector/supervisor

I run an industrial engineering firm delivering heavy-duty fabrication and installation packages to the mining sector, and I need an experienced Welding Quality Control Inspector who can split time across our Germiston, Kliprivier and Meyerton sites. The engagement is deliberately light-weight—around four hours a day, three days a week—and perfect for a freelancer who wants steady site work without locking into a full-time post. Your mandate covers both fabrication shop welds and field erection welds. You’ll verify compliance of SMAW, GTAW, GMAW and FCAW joints, interpret welding symbols and drawings, perform visual examinations (VT) at root, intermediate and final stages, and flag any non-conformances against the specified acceptance criteria. Each visit ends with a concise written report and photo log on our standard templates; weld maps and NCRs must be issued within 24 hours when needed. The sites are true heavy-industrial environments—conveyor gantries, chutes, tanks and structural frames—so a solid safety mindset and your own transport are mandatory. SAQCC or equivalent certification, a proven track record on mining or petrochemical projects, and the confidence to liaise directly with foremen and welders will set you up for success.
