Design a set of 8 icons representing categories of entities

I need a set of 8 similarly-styled icons to represents categories of entities (these are entities used to describe the content of books and other library documents).
The main requirement is that the icons should be well recognizable, i.e. we should be able to identify easily and unambiguously to which category an icon refers to.
The icons could be figurative or symbolic but the general style should remains simple with a limited number of colors. Each icons must be provided in at least three size: 128x128, 64x64 & 32x32
Here are the categories that need to be depicted (note that some may be harder to represent):
1) Single people
2) Organization, group of people
3) Meeting of people (like congress or seminar)
4) Title (of book, musical piece, journal) or more generally, intellectual work
5) Geographical places
6) Chronological period
7) Topics (i.e. general concepts)
8) Genre & form (broad category of elements describing the genre & form of document: e.g. cartoons, periodicals, dictionaries, agenda, photographies..)
In a second step, I would certainly need some variations from the resulting icons.
