We are looking for an experienced PCB Designer / Electronics Consultant with proven expertise in ATEX / IECEx standards to support the design and development of a PCB intended for use in hazardous (explosive) environments. The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the design complies with relevant standards and can successfully pass certification requirements. Scope of Work: Design and review PCB in compliance with: ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU IECEx Scheme IEC 60079 standards (especially 60079-0 and 60079-11 for intrinsic safety) Provide guidance on protection methods (e.g., Intrinsic Safety – Ex i, Increased Safety – Ex e, etc.) Ensure proper implementation of: Creepage and clearance distances Energy limitation and fault tolerance Component selection and derating Thermal management and temperature classification Perform or assist with hazard and fault analysis (FMEA) Support documentation required for certification Coordinate or guide interactions with certification bodies (if needed) Requirements: Proven experience in designing electronics for hazardous area certification (ATEX / IECEx) Strong understanding of IEC 60079 series standards Prior involvement in successfully certified products (mandatory) Experience with intrinsic safety design is highly preferred Ability to provide design validation and compliance recommendations Good communication and documentation skills Nice to Have: Experience working with certification bodies such as TÜV, SGS, Intertek, or similar Background in industrial electronics, IoT devices, or instrumentation Deliverables: Compliant PCB design (schematic + layout review or full design) Design documentation aligned with certification requirements Guidance/support through pre-compliance and certification process Project Type: Freelance / Contract (with potential for long-term collaboration) Please Include in Proposal: Relevant project experience (especially ATEX / IECEx certified products) Approach to ensuring compliance Estimated timeline and availability Any certifications or qualifications
