I am having 4+ Years of experience in drupal development, According to your description you need to update the drupal. If it just updating the contributed modules i will first check your site and is their any impact after updating those modules if not I directly update the modules(Before this I will take backup). If complete drupal want to update like security update eg. 7.x => 7.x+ i will take the backup then I'll follow normal updation steps. If you want some maintenance related work then yes i will do that but before need to discuss with you.
