- 3D cycling game
I am a programmer, but I have never done any 3D simulations. I would like to eventually create a game where 8 or more cyclists can compete in a race over the internet (using imaginary bikes).
For this project, however, I simply want to create a demo so I can (a) learn about the tools available and (b) identify a programmer that can help me build the game.
If you are interested in this project, please review the Velotron software made by Racermate (instructions are below in the deliverables section).
I may choose more than one coder to complete this project.
## Deliverables
The demo should be a 3D road with a starting line and basic background scenery that moves appropriately. The road loops and curves such that after a few miles, you cross the starting/finish line.
The program should support up to 5 cyclists. Everyone starts side-by-side at say 10mph.
I can take control of any the 5 cyclists by pressing the corresponding number key 1 thru 5 on the keyboard. "Control" for this demo simply consists of changing the cyclist's speed up or down with the arrow keys.
When I am in control of one cyclist, I should see the road from his vantage point. After I have changed several speeds, there may be only two riders in front of me that are visible, and two behind.
A statistics line at the bottom of the screen tells me my speed (mph), average speed, distance traveled, and distance from the leader (zero if I am the leader).
To best show you the visual functionality I am looking for, here are instructions on how to view a demonstration of Velotron:
(1) Install Velotron 3D

(2) Install the software patch

(3) Open the software (if you don't have any serial ports, you may get a few error messages)
(4) Click "Let's Ride"
(5) Press "G" to start the race
(6) Press "S" several times to change the view of the robotic racer
(7) You can arrow up or down to change speed
(8) Press ESC when done
## Platform
Windows XP.
