The site that we are developing is a combination of the best elements of Google Video, YouTube and Revver.com. The website will host video productions that our firm creates, as well as allowing users to upload their own video content. Each video that we create will also be offered as part of a podcast, which we'd like users to subscribe to. We'd also like to allow users who upload content to have the ability to create podcasts from their content by generating code for them, which they can paste into their web site or myspace page. Another feature that we'd like to employ is to create an incentive system, where users would receive points for promoting our website video content on other sites. What we're thinking that users would register for a user ID on our site, then when they log in to watch videos, they would also receive code to embed the video into another site or a URL to paste onto another site. That code and URL would include their unique user ID, so we can keep track of how many time the video is watched from their referral. For each time that the video is viewed from their referral, they would receive points, which would later be redeemable for merchandise on our site. Links to similar video sites, so you can familiarize yourself with some of the things that we are looking for: <[login to view URL]> <[login to view URL]> <[login to view URL]> We have all the graphics, web design and layout ready. If you need any graphics we will provide that. We are looking someone for just programming. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). * * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Monday Apr 24, 2006 11:13:37 AM: I'm thinking that it would make sense for the videos that people play from our site to be Flash, so that people can watch them regardless of which video player they might have installed on their computers.. One important component will be to build a player that plays automatically when someone clicks on its URL and allows people to pause, fast forward or rewind the video. I think a timeline showing how long the clip is and where the viewer is in the video is helpful as well. Additionally, I think that the ability to control the volume and resize the player (as offered by google video), and to share the video with friends (as offered by YouTube), are important features to include on such a player. The more distinctive, yet simple and elegant, that the player looks, the better. When viewing videos on the site, there are a few other options that we should make availab le to the user. The ability to add that video to a favorites list would be helpful, as would the ability to download the video to your computer or for an iPod or PSP (Google offers these options, but I'm not sure what the difference in file formats for an iPod or PSP are). I'd also like to offer users the option of subscribing to the podcast which that video is a part of. This is something that I don't see other sites offering. Of course, we'd have to also offer a description of what downloading a video means and what a Podcast is (Google Video explains its options pretty clearly for the novice user). I'd like to offer viewer the opportunity to flag potentially offensive content, rate the video, and post comments on it (which a administrator would approve). YouTube's rating system seems easy to use, as a model. In addition to text comments, I've found an application that easily allows users to post video comments (see http://www. [login to view URL]). I'd like to implement that application for us as well. Supposedly the company that distributes the program handles all coding for it. They just send you flash code to imbed on your site. I'll obtain more information on that once we get to that part. For now, I just want to make sure that you keep that option in mind. I think we should also include the user details, video details and share details, as YouTube does on their site. We should have general sharing details for people who don't log in, but we should encourage people to log in (as [login to view URL] does), so they can earn points for sharing videos. That is another key way in which I see people wanting to upload and share videos from our site as opposed to others. The sharing should provide people with a URL to the video (unique to their User ID where applicable) and code to embed the player on their site (also unique code for their User I D). [login to view URL] mentions something about certain sites not allowing There are many components to the site, but the player and its functionality is probably the most critical. Hopefully this (as well as the attached illustrator files) will be enough of an outline to get you started. The text on the Illustrator file is obviously dummy text, which we can change once the basic programming of the site is complete. * * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Monday Apr 24, 2006 11:19:41 AM: The site borrows a lot of it's functionality from other video site, with some unique twists, so hopefully you'll be able to use parts of the code from other sites as a model for our website. As far as the site is designed, the fiirst thing I should ask is how familiar you are with some of the video sharing sites that I directed you to earlier? I'd like to create a community feel similar to them.
