A Silicon Valley company is looking for a professional Web Designer. This is the first project in a series of several that would ideally grow into a relationship. The list of tasks is in the attachment "List of [login to view URL]". You should be able to perform design changes directly in PHTML code (not in Design view!) of an existing system on LAMP Platform (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP). The work implies picking up colors, icons, updating layout, styles, frames, positioning, gradients, etc., as well as designing a few new pages. You will work together with another outsourcing team based in Romania who implements the functionality. I will give instructions how to upload your changes automatically using Starteam online collaboration tool. I will also answer all your questions regarding the attached list of tasks during the initial Skype interview, which is required for both of us to make sure you fully understand the requirements and the general workflow. =================================================== ## Deliverables ** READ THIS DESCRIPTION ENTIRELY. I WILL NOT RESPOND TO YOUR RENTACODER MESSAGES IF YOU DO NOT READ IT.** **Requirements:** --- Portfolio --- Fluent English. Voice communication via Skype. --- Being on time. Ability to meet the deadlines. ATTENTION TO DETAILS. --- Expert in Web Design (CSS, XHTML) --- Professional in Adobe Photoshop OR Adobe Illustrator OR Corel Draw --- Familiarity with PHP, MySQL, Apache **Task** Perform a series of design tasks related to www.privatespaceonline.com. The list of tasks is in the attachment "List of Tasks.docx." It includes both the tasks that should be done on the existing system in PHTML code, and those that relate to its extensions: i.e. required separately in HTML before functionality is implemented. I will explain how to use the web site and how to find the pages where the design changes should be made during the initial Skype interview. However, it will be your responsibility to find the corresponding PHTML files. You should use existing CSS styles and design conventions, and also follow the General Design Guidelines given below. The project may also include trivial to implement tasks, such as text/label changes, small position/size changes, font changes etc. If more than that is required, we can extend the budget and the deadlines. Compatibility with the following browsers is required: --- Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher --- Firefox 2.0 or higher --- Safari 3.2.1 for Macintosh or higher **Deadlines** The work starts since: 1. I answer your questions regarding the requirements via Skype or in writing 2. You sign an NDA, and I give you access to the source code 3. You notify me once you have successfully deployed the project on your local server 4. I escrow the funds I will need you to work full time during the first few days, and then finish the remakes / corrections working part time after most of the work is done. The deadlines allow for a substantial reserve of time for communication, mock ups / adjustments / remakes, and unexpected circumstances. They do not represent the actual number of business hours you will have to spend. The deadline is 18 calendar days that consist of: --- 6 calendar days - to complete the initial requirements for all tasks --- plus 12 calendar days - for any adjustments or remakes that require my feedback **Communication** --- At the beginning, I will require establishing regular time for Skype sessions every business day (except weekends) when I would answer your questions and give feedback on your mock ups. The preferred time for me is 11.15pm ??" 11.55pm Pacific Standard Time (UTC -8.00), yet we can pick up a different time. --- I shall discuss the milestones and the requirements directly with the person who implements the design - not with a project manager or anybody else (for companies) --- All time mentioned in this project is Pacific Standard Time ONLY. The time zone is UTC -8.00. You will be solely responsible for accurate conversion of your time into Pacific Standard Time. Any time mentioned with regard to this project, especially for deadlines, Skype sessions and milestones, is ALWAYS an EXACT time in the form of XX:XXpm/am. There is no "approximate" time. **General Workflow** 1. The attached "List of [login to view URL]" is duplicated on Starteam. I will send you step-by-step instructions how to use Starteam after the first Skype session. 2. Before you start working on any task (further called "Change Request" (CR) ), you must always fully understand the requirements. Ask me during the Skype session or through RentACoder if anything is unclear. 3. Once you confirm that you understand the requirements, you commit the time when you will prepare the next deliverables for each CR. The deliverables may be either PHTML changes that you show to me on your local server, or 1 - 3 mock ups that you may attach to the corresponding CR on Starteam for more complicated pages. 4. If anything should be changed, I communicate that during the regular Skype sessions, or, sometimes, just make my own adjustments to your mock ups. Normally, I review the deliverables daily and respond within 24 hours (rarely within 48) since the moment when I get the notification through Starteam. The project deadlines above account for these delays. 5. You automatically upload your changes to Starteam every business day. I recommend that you also duplicate your work at RentACoder for recordkeeping purposes. 6. After I approve the changes on your local server, you mark the corresponding CRs as "fixed". Once the last CR is fixed, I release the funds within 24 hours since then. You should finish and upload the last CR to Starteam BEFORE the final deadline. ** Feedback** In order to minimize misunderstanding and unexpected outcomes in our relationship, I will periodically send you the "Customer Satisfaction [login to view URL]", whose purpose is to early communicate all small concerns that can add up into bigger problems in the long-term. By default, you will have 1000 customer satisfaction points. Each drop will have a date and comment explaining why it happened. If customer satisfaction remains within 1000-400 range by the end of the project, it means that I am fully satisfied, and willing to assign 10star ranking through RentACoder --- If 400-275 ??" 9star ranking --- If 275-175 ??" 8star ranking --- If 175-130 ??" 7star ranking --- If 130-100 ??" 6star ranking If the customer satisfaction goes below 100, the project goes into arbitration, and you agree to receive funds for the portion of the project that I have previously officially approved on Starteam MINUS 20% of the total project cost. Also, customer satisfaction below 275 will likely make me unwilling to work with you on the future projects. Although "Customer satisfaction" is a totally subjective measure, if the project ever goes into arbitration or any payment dispute arises, the spreadsheet will likely accumulate enough valid reasons to justify that. Most drops in customer satisfaction are relatively small (minus 5-10 points). However, they grow exponentially with each repeated issue of the same kind. Few examples of why customer satisfaction may crawl down include: --- You miss or are late for a Skype session without having negotiated an alternative time beforehand. --- You miss the details: for example, you do not accurately copy the quoted string of text from the description of Change Request, inaccurately transfer the spacing from the mock up that I modified for you, etc. --- You miss the previously committed time for the next deliverables for any CR. --- Missing the Final Deadline for the whole task results in a dramatic drop of up to 350 customer satisfaction points instantly and then 100 points every 24 hours thereafter. In case of any unexpected problems, we may negotiate an extension of the Final Deadline, but there should be a valid reason for that. **General Design Guidelines** I need you to produce clear, pleasant, professionally-looking and easy-to-use User Interface. Your proposals may not necessarily match those that I have in mind, but they must abide by the following guidelines: --- Consistency. If you choose to use a specific layout, color, style, control, tag, or any other design component in a specific situation on one page, you should update it on all other pages that you design and where the same situation is present. Otherwise, your decisions should be within the existing design conventions. It is not acceptable to design one page, control, or spacing between controls in one way in one place, and leave the ones in some other places designed in an arbitrary way. --- Accuracy. Your may not leave any part of the design arbitrary or "by browser default". For example, you may choose to align some controls to the left, to the right, or to the center, but you must align them somehow ??" you may not leave them as they are. --- Judgment. You must understand how the product works. I can explain it via Skype. You may not proceed with the design without fully understanding how users are expected to use the page you are about to change. For example, you may not position a specific text or label closer to the one control, whereas it logically relates to the other or is not related to any specific control at all. Please review the attached "Examples of Bad [login to view URL]" document. --- Attention to details. Occasionally, I may explicitly request the design to be done in a specific way. In this case, I will expect you to read the description thoroughly. Inaccuracies in the copied text, non-aligned controls, or inconsistency in styles, illogical layout or spacing will always result in the drops in the customer satisfaction. ** To bid for this project:** 1. Review the attached "List of [login to view URL]" to estimate the amount of work 2. Review the attached "Examples of Bad [login to view URL]" to make sure you understand what I want 3. Indicate the earliest date and choose all slots that are convenient for you to have the initial voice-over-Skype interview on this date (that might not necessary be the same time as for the regular Skype sessions) Slot#1: 10.00pm - 10.25pm Pacific Slot#2: 10.30pm - 10.55pm Pacific Slot#3: 11.00pm - 11.25pm Pacific Slot#4: 11.30pm - 11.55pm Pacific Slot#5: 8.30am - 8.55am Pacific Slot#6: 9.00am - 9.25am Pacific I am looking forward to talking to you as soon as possible. **P.S.** Please do not send me messages with proposals for chat instead of voice, GoogleTalk instead of Skype, messages without a time slot selected or time given in non-Pacific time zone etc. I will not respond to those.
