Convert simple function to MySQL stored procedure

I have a simple Perl function that queries a MySQL database, performs some basic calculations on the returned data, and returns an array of results. This project is to take the existing Perl function and rewrite it as a MySQL stored procedure that can be called with the same parameters as the Perl function, and then returns a result set. The reason for the rewrite is to test whether there is a performance benefit to running this in the database instead of on the application server. You must be able to complete this project using only the supplied source code and schema of the involved tables. Database access will not be provided. Because of that, I understand that you will not be able to fully test the stored procedure. That is acceptable as long as the procedure is valid MySQL syntax and is essentially correct.
