PHP / CodeIgniter Developer — E-Commerce Catalog Integration Part-Time | 5 hrs/day, 5 days/week | $2/hr About the project This is a jewelry e-commerce site built on PHP CodeIgniter with a MySQL backend. The site pulls product inventory from five separate vendor/manufacturer sources, each with its own data structure. Our current priority is unifying these into a consistent shopping experience: a single mega-menu navigation, category/listing pages, product detail pages, and cart — all working correctly regardless of which vendor a given product comes from. Foundational architecture (data model, controllers, and navigation spec) is already in place. We need a developer to take this the rest of the way: wire it into the live site, build out the remaining views, resolve outstanding data gaps, and ensure everything works end-to-end against the production database. What you'll be working on Completing the listing → detail → cart flow across all 5 product sources Building/finishing CodeIgniter view templates to match the existing site theme Writing and testing filter logic (by style, shape, metal, collection, price, etc.) against real MySQL data Resolving legacy database debt — the app has a large number of old, duplicate, and inconsistently-structured tables from a previous business/template; part of this role is helping sort out what's live vs. dead code Implementing a unified cart that correctly tracks which vendor/table a product came from, so "view details" and checkout stay accurate General CodeIgniter MVC development: controllers, models, routing, views Working from existing technical specs (we maintain detailed documentation of table structures, filter mappings, and navigation requirements) and knowing how to ask sharp clarifying questions when specs and reality don't match Required skills & experience 3+ years of PHP development, with real production experience in CodeIgniter (not just Laravel/Symfony — CodeIgniter's conventions matter here) Strong MySQL skills: writing performant queries across multiple tables, understanding schema design, comfortable with JOIN/UNION decisions and indexing Experience with e-commerce systems: product catalogs, cart/checkout logic, category and filter-driven browsing Comfortable working in a legacy codebase — reading unfamiliar code, identifying dead vs. live logic, and making safe, incremental changes without breaking existing functionality Front-end competency: HTML/CSS/JavaScript, and ability to match an existing site's visual theme rather than defaulting to your own style Experience with data import/migration — CSV/Excel to MySQL, handling inconsistent or messy source data Git or equivalent version control Strong written communication — this project has multiple data sources with real ambiguities (missing fields, inconsistent formats, unconfirmed values), and we need someone who documents assumptions and flags gaps clearly rather than guessing silently Strongly preferred Prior experience integrating multiple vendor/supplier product feeds into one storefront (drop-shipping, marketplace, or B2B jewelry/diamond industry experience is a big plus) Experience with jewelry-specific product attributes: 4Cs (cut/clarity/color/carat), metal types/karats, stone shapes — understanding why these matter to filtering and search SEO-aware development: clean URL structures, avoiding duplicate/thin content across large combinatorial catalogs Experience building or maintaining mega-menu/faceted navigation systems Comfortable reading and executing against detailed technical specs (we'll provide schema docs, filter-mapping sheets, and architecture notes) Soft skills that matter for this role Asks good questions before writing code, not after something breaks Comfortable saying "this doesn't match what you told me, can you confirm" rather than guessing and shipping it Documents changes clearly enough that someone else (or future-you) can pick up the work Works well async — this is a spec-driven, documentation-heavy project

Hi, The main challenge here is not the theme, but maintaining one consistent catalog flow across five vendor structures while keeping menu, listing, detail, filter, and cart behavior accurate. If vendor/source IDs are not tracked end to end, the site may look correct initially but fail later in product details, filters, or checkout. I have experience with legacy PHP/CodeIgniter systems, including separating live logic from outdated template debt and improving data flow without disrupting production. My first priority would be to review the current CI structure, confirm the mapping rules, trace the controllers/models/views, and connect product source handling through the catalog and cart so each item remains vendor-accurate. Initial focus: Review current CI flow and live tables Map vendor-specific product fields Complete listing/detail/cart behavior Build safe MySQL filter queries Remove dead or duplicate logic only where needed One question: for products shared across vendors, should the cart keep them as separate source-specific items or merge them into one display item with vendor metadata attached?

Hi! I have several years of experience developing production PHP applications using CodeIgniter and MySQL, including maintaining legacy systems, improving existing features, optimizing SQL queries, and integrating data from multiple sources. One of my projects involved building and maintaining a large business platform where clean MVC architecture, database optimization, and safe incremental updates were essential. I’m comfortable working with complex relational data, resolving inconsistent schemas, writing efficient JOIN/UNION queries, and implementing filtering, search, pagination, and shopping workflows without disrupting existing functionality. I also have experience importing and normalizing CSV/Excel data, documenting assumptions, and communicating proactively whenever specifications and real-world data don’t align. I always focus on maintainable code, careful testing, and matching the existing UI rather than rewriting what already works. I’d be happy to help complete the remaining catalog, filtering, cart flow, and legacy cleanup while ensuring the application remains stable and easy to extend.

You've got 5 different vendor data sources feeding into one CodeIgniter site, and the challenge is making them all behave like a single, consistent catalog. That's exactly the kind of messy integration problem I've sorted out before, and I can pick up where your existing architecture leaves off. I work primarily in PHP and have spent years in CodeIgniter specifically, not just Laravel. For this project, the key is understanding how each vendor table maps to your unified schema, then building the views and filter logic so the front end doesn't care where the data came from. I'm comfortable reading legacy code and figuring out what's dead versus live, and I'll ask for clarification when a spec doesn't match reality. I provide unlimited revisions until you're completely satisfied. Let me know if you'd like to start with a small piece of the flow to see how we work together.

Hi, The hardest part of this isn't the views, it's the vendor provenance. A unified cart that tracks which source table each product came from means the product ID alone can't be the key, you need a composite reference carried through listing, detail, and checkout, otherwise "view details" points at the wrong row when two vendors share IDs. How are you keying products across the five sources right now, a synthetic ID or vendor prefix? I've built CodeIgniter and MySQL e-commerce work like Exceed Cars, an Iraqi dealership site with an admin panel and reworked catalog (mango-portfolio wise it maps closely to sorting live vs dead legacy tables). Backed by MangoCoders, 15 years full-stack. Send me the schema doc and I'll flag the first data gaps before writing code. Adil

Hi, this looks like a CodeIgniter e-commerce integration inside an existing live system, which is usually less about writing new screens and more about understanding where order, catalog, and state transitions can break. The real engineering risk is coupling new integration logic too tightly to the current checkout and admin flow, which creates fragile behavior around inventory, pricing, and order status updates. I’ve built several production customizations like this by starting with a code walkthrough, mapping the current transaction flow, and isolating the integration points before changing business logic. That approach is what keeps existing commerce behavior stable while new connections are added. The closest relevant work here is Custom Feature Development & Integration, where I stepped into an existing product, reviewed the codebase, and implemented targeted changes across core functionality and data flow. Squarespace Checkout Streamlining for Meal Service -- 2 is also relevant from the e-commerce side because the work centered on protecting checkout integrity with custom validation logic. I usually structure this kind of work by separating sync triggers, business rules, and failure handling so retries and edge cases do not leak into the customer path. If useful, I can first sketch the current integration surface and identify the highest-risk order flow before any implementation. Thanks, Hercules

Hi, I can build the unified catalog flow that connects the five vendor sources to a single mega-menu and cart without breaking the existing CodeIgniter codebase. I’ve done similar work on a multi-vendor fashion catalog where we consolidated product data from different suppliers into one clean storefront, although the first pass needed some schema cleanup to remove legacy duplicates. I’d approach this using CodeIgniter’s MVC with a single point of entry for all vendor data, keeping the routing simple and indexing the MySQL tables for fast faceted navigation. Every change will be committed to a separate branch with pull requests for quick review, so nothing touches production until it’s tested against the real database. The goal is a stable storefront that’s easier to maintain and doesn’t slow down as the catalog grows. Happy to jump in if we’re aligned. I can start right now. Thanks, Denis
