Hi You need a hypervisor to partition or split the server. Or You can use virtualization inside OS to create further 2 VM's. But this approach doesn't look good for your requirement. My suggestion is to have 2 separate servers for your test and production. Since your software's are PHP and mysql, it will be definitely a web server. And your production server IP will be public to access from outside (if required) and your test server will be your internal network. Since it's a web server you might not have very huge data, but should give priority to the performance of the website. There are few performance parameters for php and SQL. I worked with different services and servers, particularly, designing of a local data center, management of local and remote sites, and cloud environments. The above-mentioned experience includes work with virtualization technologies, mostly based on VMWare products, cloud services such as AWS, DigitalOcean, and etc. I have proven knowledge of networking and security, thanks to the work experience and Cisco training sessions I participated. The short list of the servers and services include but are not limited to: Web Server (Apache, Nginx, IIS), Mail Server (Postfix, Exim, PowerMTA), DNS Server (BIND, Unbound, MS DNS), Firewalls (Iptables, PFSense, etc.), basic scripting (BASH) etc. As for the project, I'd like to ask if you have a backup of the application that needs to be migrated, or it's a part of the project? Are you planning to manage DNS (IP address switch, from old to new) by your own? It is hard to suggest anything without knowing what you have and what you are trying to achieve by migrating to the cloud. Also, since it has been mentioned that you need test server (for developers I suppose) I believe it will be a good idea to discuss access and permissions on both servers. Hello I have 4 years experience in setup and management of different Linux web hosting servers, Cloud Servers, Server Management, Server Security, Mailing Servers, Email Servers, SSL, Server Monitoring etc. I have a long time experience in managing complicated hosting environments and have solid skills in live migrations, tuning and performance optimizations over Linux OS As per your project description, I can understand that need two servers on for testing and other for production. you are going to test your application first on test server then deploy that on the production server. My suggestion is we use test server with low configuration and live server will not have a too much heavy configuration. We can use just next better available configuration then test server. Because we are just starting; we can bring more resources in when needed. I recommend that we also keep one more server for backup because taking backups locally and if something goes wrong and then bringing new server and configuring that is not a good idea. It gives us some down time So we must keep one backup server to store all backups in a proper way and when needed we can restore server from our backups.
