Raspberry Pi 5 CCTV RTSP Viewer with GPIO Alarm Trigger We require a developer to create a reliable Raspberry Pi application that automatically displays a live CCTV camera stream and responds to GPIO input triggers. Hardware Raspberry Pi 5 – 8GB Raspberry Pi DAC Pro HDMI-connected display CCTV camera providing an RTSP stream External dry-contact or relay inputs External device controlled by a GPIO output Normal Operation When the Raspberry Pi is powered on, the system must automatically: Boot the Raspberry Pi operating system. Launch the programmed application. Open the supplied CCTV RTSP stream. Display the RTSP stream in full-screen mode. Continue displaying the stream until a GPIO alarm input is activated. The CCTV camera IP address, username, password and RTSP stream settings will be supplied. GPIO Alarm Event When the designated GPIO alarm input receives a pulse or contact closure, the system must: Temporarily stop or hide the live RTSP display. Display a supplied still image in full-screen mode. Activate a designated GPIO output. Keep the GPIO output active for 10 seconds. Play a supplied MP3 audio file through the Raspberry Pi DAC Pro. Keep the alarm image displayed for the full 10-second alarm period. After 10 seconds, deactivate the GPIO output. Stop the alarm audio. Automatically return to the live RTSP CCTV stream. The system should prevent repeated input pulses from causing software crashes or overlapping alarm events. The developer should nominate whether additional triggers are ignored, queued or used to restart the 10-second timer. Reboot Input A separate GPIO input must be programmed to safely reboot the Raspberry Pi when activated. The reboot input should use suitable debounce or trigger-delay protection to prevent accidental repeated reboot commands. Exit Hotkey A keyboard hotkey must be provided to: Exit the full-screen CCTV application. Return the user to the normal Raspberry Pi desktop GUI. Avoid shutting down or rebooting the Raspberry Pi. The selected hotkey must be documented. Automatic Startup and Recovery The completed system must: Automatically start after the Raspberry Pi is powered on. Automatically launch the CCTV display application. Recover or reconnect if the RTSP stream temporarily becomes unavailable. Resume normal operation after a system reboot. Operate without requiring a keyboard or mouse during normal use. Avoid displaying command-line windows, error messages or the Raspberry Pi desktop during normal startup where reasonably possible. Configuration The following settings should be stored in an easily editable configuration file: RTSP stream URL CCTV username and password, where required Alarm input GPIO pin Alarm output GPIO pin Reboot input GPIO pin Alarm duration Still-image file location MP3 audio file location Audio volume GPIO input trigger type GPIO output active state Deliverables The successful developer must provide: Fully working Raspberry Pi application. Installation and configuration of all required software. Automatic startup configuration. RTSP stream reconnection and basic fault handling. GPIO input and output programming. Raspberry Pi DAC Pro audio configuration. All source code and configuration files. A backup or installation package that can be used on another Raspberry Pi. Clear installation and setup instructions. A complete GPIO pinout showing: BCM GPIO number Physical header pin number Pin function Input or output type Active-high or active-low operation Required pull-up or pull-down configuration Instructions for changing the RTSP address, image, audio file, timer and GPIO assignments. Remote support during installation and initial testing. Testing Requirements The completed system must be tested to confirm: The application starts automatically after power-up. The RTSP stream displays correctly in full-screen mode. The system reconnects if the RTSP stream is interrupted. The alarm input displays the still image. The MP3 plays through the Raspberry Pi DAC Pro. The GPIO output remains active for approximately 10 seconds. The system returns to the live stream after the alarm event. The reboot input safely reboots the Raspberry Pi. The exit hotkey returns the system to the Raspberry Pi desktop. Repeated or noisy GPIO inputs do not crash the application. Developer Requirements Applicants should have experience with: Raspberry Pi OS Raspberry Pi 5 Python or another suitable programming language GPIO input and output control RTSP video streaming VLC, GStreamer, FFmpeg or similar video frameworks Linux automatic startup services Raspberry Pi audio and DAC configuration Application fault recovery and watchdog functions Please include examples of similar Raspberry Pi, GPIO, CCTV, RTSP or digital signage projects completed previously.

Hi I am an embedded systems engineer with over 16 years of experience. I have extensive experience building Raspberry Pi based video, GPIO and kiosk-style systems where the unit has to boot cleanly, run unattended, recover from faults and be simple for a non-technical user to maintain. For your Raspberry Pi 5 CCTV/GPIO alarm application I can provide a full working setup that starts automatically, opens the RTSP stream in full screen, handles GPIO alarm and reboot inputs with debounce protection, switches to the supplied alarm image, plays the MP3 through the DAC Pro, drives the output for the configured 10 seconds, then returns reliably to the live stream. I would keep the RTSP URL, pins, trigger type, active states, media paths, timer and volume in an editable config file, and include a documented GPIO pinout and setup package for another Pi. I can use Python with VLC/GStreamer/FFmpeg as appropriate after checking the exact RTSP stream and Raspberry Pi OS image, and I will also set up autostart/recovery so the desktop and terminal windows are avoided as much as practical. For repeated alarm pulses I would normally ignore extra triggers during an active alarm, unless you prefer restarting the 10 second timer. Similar Raspberry Pi, GPIO, CCTV and digital signage projects cannot be shared publicly, but I can show relevant details privately. Please contact me to discuss details.

Your RTSP stream will drop frames or freeze if you're using VLC without buffering tuning, and GPIO debouncing without interrupt handling will cause false triggers during electrical noise. This creates an unreliable alarm system. Quick questions - are you running this in a high-EMI environment where relay bounce could cause repeated triggers? And what's your acceptable latency between GPIO pulse and image display? Here is the architectural approach: - PYTHON + GSTREAMER: Build a hardware-accelerated RTSP pipeline using libcamera and v4l2 codecs to eliminate frame drops, with automatic reconnection logic that survives network interruptions without crashing the display loop. - LINUX GPIO + INTERRUPTS: Implement edge-triggered GPIO interrupts with software debouncing and a state machine that queues alarm events during the 10-second lockout period, preventing race conditions from overlapping triggers. - RASPBERRY PI DAC PRO + ALSA: Configure ALSA directly for the DAC Pro with pre-loaded MP3 buffers to guarantee audio starts within 50ms of trigger, avoiding pygame mixer latency that causes delayed playback. I've built similar embedded control systems for industrial clients where uptime and GPIO reliability were non-negotiable. Let's schedule a quick call to confirm your GPIO wiring scheme and RTSP codec before I start the build.

Hi, I am a senior embedded systems engineer with 10+ years of experience in Raspberry Pi, Linux, GPIO control, industrial automation, and networked embedded systems, delivering 30+ production-ready hardware/software solutions involving real-time I/O, communication, and fault recovery. Approach ✅ I will build a reliable full-screen RTSP viewer with automatic reconnection, configurable stream credentials, and clean switching between live video and the alarm image. ✅ I will implement debounced GPIO event handling with a non-overlapping alarm state machine, 10-second output timing, DAC Pro MP3 playback, and a protected reboot input. ✅ I will configure automatic startup, watchdog/recovery behavior, exit hotkey handling, editable configuration, and a clean boot experience without visible terminal windows. ✅ I will validate all required scenarios and deliver source code, GPIO pinout, installation package, and clear setup/reconfiguration instructions. Questions ✅ Which Raspberry Pi OS version and CCTV camera/RTSP codec (H.264 or H.265) will be used? ✅ For repeated alarm triggers, should additional pulses be ignored during the 10-second cycle, or should they restart the timer? ✅ Are the dry-contact inputs already electrically isolated, or should I specify interface/protection circuitry between the external relays and 3.3V GPIO? Best, Yaroslav

Hi, I will build the Raspberry Pi 5 application that boots to the OS, launches a full screen RTSP viewer, monitors the GPIO alarm input, displays your supplied still image, activates the designated GPIO output for 10 seconds while playing the supplied MP3 through the Raspberry Pi DAC Pro, and then returns automatically to the live stream. I deployed a Pi RTSP and GPIO alarm system across three retail sites using Python and VLC for playback. All configuration will live in an editable file: RTSP URL and credentials, alarm input pin, alarm output pin, reboot pin, alarm duration, image and MP3 locations, audio volume, trigger type and output active state. The reboot input will use debounce and a trigger delay for safety. Repeated triggers during an active alarm will restart the 10 second timer to avoid overlapping events. Startup, automatic reconnection and watchdog recovery will be handled by a systemd service. I will provide full source, a bootable image, BCM pinout sheet and installation instructions. If you share RTSP credentials, a sample image and MP3 I will produce a bootable image, complete GPIO pinout and a short test report within 48 hours free, no commitment. Happy to jump on a quick chat to arrange access. Regards, Ali Zain
