The Halifax Tax Consultancy is a cross-border (US and Canada) tax consulting and compliance accounting firm. We are based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. You can see the current website here: [login to view URL]

We are developing a weekly blog post on cross-border tax issues that is meant to be of interest to Canadian and US individuals and businesses with cross-border tax issues. It will also attract attention from non-specialized accountants. Unlike some marketing material produced by accountants, the blog posts are not meant to showcase technical knowledge to other professionals; the intention is to produce informal, accessible reflections on topics of interest to non-specialist individuals/businesses/accountants to draw traffic to the firm's website and increase its profile.

The project will be ongoing in nature and paid hourly.

The freelancer will be provided with a draft blog post dictated via Dragon Dictation. It will be approximately .5 to 1 page in length, single spaced. The technical content of the post is provided by the firm's author; a successful freelancer will be able to add value in the following ways:

1) Re-writing - the draft post will be "stream of consciousness", so it won't be polished. The freelancer should strengthen both the written structure as well as providing clarity, creativity and interest to the written product (at least, as much interest as a tax blog can have!)

2) Editing - correcting spelling, punctuation, etc. The final product should be ready to be posted to a website.

3) Viewing the product from a non-specialist angle - It is an asset that the freelancer is not a tax specialist. That is the reason that the "technical content" is provided in the draft. However, we want the freelancer to craft the final product in such a way that it does make sense to a non-specialist - that is what the readers will be. The freelancer should clarify any content that is not understood to ensure that the final product remains technically sound while providing a mirror to the firm's author when we don't perceive the technical language/jargon and lack of adequate explanation.
