Hello I am a macOS system developer. For what it's worth, I worked with video and audio streaming APIs of macOS, also contributed to a project that does processing of streaming video data from ip-cameras (implemented one of the modules (rtsp) for crtmpserver). I didn't work with this particular microsoft API, but from the looks of the example this proof-of-concept shouldn't take longer than a week to adapt to a continuous audio stream. May I ask why did you choose this particular speech recognition api?

UPDATE: That turned out to be easier than expected (after a few minor issues). I have a working app, for your POC! Continuous recognition, from the microphone. 2 hours @ $50/hour = $100 POC: * A simple macOS app, with a basic UI (start/stop button, and text field) * Request permissions (microphone, network) * Include Speech Services SDK * Receive speech input * Use SDK to transcribe (continuously) * Output text results Microsoft provide good documentation on their Speech Services, so that’s helpful! Sample code is a mix of Objective-C and Swift - you want Swift. Converting Objective-C takes extra time, so we might need to think about that. In the long term, you are right to choose Swift. The SDK was straightforward to install, and get started. Do you already have a subscription key? I develop apps for iPhone/iPad and Mac, using Xcode and Swift. You can see some examples of my work, and client reviews of my completed projects, on the Freelancer "Portfolio" link (by my profile photo). I would say that my skills are expert on iOS, and mid-level on macOS. I choose to work on projects that I find interesting. A medical transcription app is definitely interesting! (My daughter is a doctor.) I now have a basic working app, which could be used for further development. Hello! I've been developing macOS apps in Objective-C and Swift for about 12 years. I had a few questions about your proof of concept: 1. Is the goal to take a large volume of dictaphone recordings and transcribe them all at once, or for someone to dictate into a microphone and store the audio and transcriptions of those sessions, possibly with some additional metadata? Maybe both? 2. Do you have experience working with this SDK before? Most speech-to-text solutions are not perfect, and can choke on some of the compound words used in medical work (try saying mesothelioma to Siri). 3. Do you currently have a subscription key for the Microsoft Cognitive Services Speech SDK? 4. Do you expect to have any HIPAA requirements? Presumably the goal of a macOS app is that the data never leaves the computer. I would expect a proof of concept to take about a total of 8 hours (1 day's work); 2 hours of specification work over chat/telephone with you and 4-5 hours of programming.
