I run a Proxmox homelab with 5 VMs daily, so this is second nature. Debian 12, bridge networking, Cloud-Init templates, resource limits, the works. I'd set up your VM pool with proper vmbr bridges (or VLANs if you need segmentation), assign storage, create a Cloud-Init template so you can spin up new VMs in seconds, and hand over a short doc covering the setup.
