css changes for a joomla theme

We are migrating from Joomla 2.x to Joomla 3.x and from an older YooTheme Explorer Theme to a new YooTheme Unity Theme.
The content has been migrated and the new theme fits surprisingly well. We would like to make adjustments to further improve how things look and fit, and in most cases we'd like it to look similar to the original 2.x site (from here forward called "oldsite"). We want to be sure that the changes made do not hurt the responsive qualities of the new 3.x site ("newsite").
To start I'd like to focus on correcting things that look obviously wrong, like lists of menu items that drop straight down to the bottom of the screen or text that's pressed against the sides of the content area with 0 padding.
Fonts that are different, larger differences in spacing or size, color differences should be addressed. The goal is to have an updated look, not an exact copy. If it's about 80% similar in most cases that should be fine.

You'll need a mobile device or a reliable emulator to test responsiveness as you go. We are concerned with overall look, usability and also with Google's assessment of how mobile friendly the site is.
The pages included in scope of this phase of the project are all those linked to directly from the Main & Quick Menus and pages linked to from those pages. There is an additional hidden menu that links directly to other pages - these will be addressed separately.
The JomSocial pages do not need to be addressed at this time

Initially I'd like you to work for no more than 10 hours. If additional time is required beyond that we will assess and continue from there after it's discussed. If you complete these tasks before exhausting the 10 hours please let me know.

Below is a list of items we know need to be addressed.
1. Fonts, Sizing, Colors, Spacing and various CSS styling needs to be added/adjusted to make content and layout look more like the oldsite
2. The Main Menu & Quick Menu layout needs to be adjusted so items display more like oldsite while remaining responsive.
3. I need to get Caching and compression working so they can be enabled. We need to resolve any issues that enabling cache and compression may cause.
4. All URLs on the newsite need to match the URLs on the oldsite. Since the newsite is on a testing domain the domain will be different, but other than that the URL should match exactly. Relative URLs have been used throughout the site so migrating the site should be possible later.
5. I'm using AceSEF for sef urls. Some of the custom URL info was lost, so many of the links that appear in the text and in various places on the site return a 404 and need to be updated. The current live site has the urls working so it can be used for reference. If broken links are found on the live site they can be noted and I'll provide the correct URL.
6. The YooTheme Gallery widget is used to display pictures on one of the sections - Some CSS styling will need to be done to improve the layout.
