You can download the ‘Assignment 2 – Part B Template’ here.

You should write your Assignment on the Assignment Template, that is provided above.

Please use a size 11 or 12, easy to read font. Please make sure that you 1.5 space your work. Do not adjust the margins.

It is recommended that you follow the ILAC structure.

Penalties:

Exceeding word count

As per the Unit Outline, if you exceed the maximum word limit for Assignment 2 – Part B, you will be penalised at the rate of 5% per 100 words over the limit.

The word limit for Part B is 800 words. This means that if you write between 801 and 900 words you will receive a 5% penalty. This means that if you receive 75% for Part B, it will be reduced to 70%.

Word Count:

Please include your word count at the end of your Reference List (there is a space for you to do so on the Assignment Template).

The word count includes your written answer, plus in text referencing (if you are using an intext referencing style, like Harvard). All headings and quotes are also included in the word count.

Excluded from the word count:

Your Reference List

Your cover sheet, and feedback sheet.

You must state your word count accurately. If you do not state your word count accurately, you may be in breach of the Academic Integrity Policy, which may lead to serious consequences.

Please note that your assignments are electronic and will be marked electronically. It is very easy for the markers to check the word count.

Referencing:

Referencing style

The specified style is Harvard Referencing. If you are not sure on how to use this referencing style, please see the ‘Guide to Referencing and Academic Integrity’ which can be found in the “Assessment Information” block on the LHS of screen.

If you would like to use the Australian Guide to Legal Citation (AGLC) footnoting method, you are welcome to. For more information on this style, please see here.

Referencing of the text book

For your intext reference, please make sure that you include a pinpoint reference; please reference the page number of where you found the information. E.g. (Gibson & Fraser, 2013, p 354).

Remember, one of the reasons why you reference your work is so that the reader can easily find the material you have used. The markers do not want to look through the entire book to find the information you have referred to!

Referencing cases

When referencing cases, you must write the full case name and the citation the first time that you refer to a case. If you refer to the case a second time, you can simply refer to the case name.

E.g. Mabo v Queensland (No 2) (1992) 175 CLR 1

Please see pages 91 - 92 (Figures 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3) for an explanation on what the citation means.

Referencing Legislation

When referencing legislation, it is very important to include the jurisdiction. This is because several states may have the same name for an Act.

e.g. Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), Acts Interpretation Act 1915 (SA)

Number of references

There is no set number of references. A certain number of references will not guarantee you a pass for this assignment.

Reference List

You should list all of the sources that you have used in your Assignment.

You should also include a list of cases that you have referred to in your answer and a list of legislation (if you refer to any). (See the Assignment Template)
