Checklist web application

Modify the list editor found at [url removed, login to view] so that the generated nested list can be inserted into a database either as a blob file or record by record. A summary of modifications required can be found in Appendix A.

This example is meant to be considered as an idea of the what we are looking for and therefore it is up to the coder if they’d like to modify or simply recreate their own list.

Skills Required:

• Experience in front-end web development.

• Extensive knowledge of javascript, jquery/ajax, css, and html/html5.

• Experience with php and sql.

• Cleary and concise documentation skills.

Appendix A Modifications required:

• Add a field for uploading an image associated with the list.

• Remove the checkmark button (don’t need the button that crosses off a list item when it’s completed).

• Currently, the list editor uses local storage to save lists on the client side. The jquery needs to be modified so that ajax requests are sent to the server instead.

Alternative 1 – Store nested lists as blob files

• If the nested list is being inserted into the database as a blob file, three parameters need to be sent via the ajax request: name, picture, and the nested list.
o The nested list needs to be sent so that when it is being displayed, all the user sees is an expandable nested list. The list should not be editable. However, the user can click the edit button and see the same interface that they used to create the list.

• If the nested list is being inserted record by record, then the following database model will be used:
o Currently leaning towards a table composed of the following fields:
1. List_id
2. List_entry
3. Picture
4. Depth (0, 1, 2, 3,…(0 indicates list title)
5. Lineage (ie /1/4/7/)
6. Sort

The sort field contains entries separated by 5000 (ie 0, 5000, 10000, 15000…). This makes it easy to add entries into the list without changing the sort rank of the other records.

An algorithm is then used to build the list with html list tags.

o It is important to know the lineage of the preceding list item
