Create Blackberry chat client application and server-side registration/hosting

We're looking to develop a J2ME chat client application that will work on RIM Blackberry mobile handhelds (possibly other phones that use J2ME). In conjunction with this client, a server side application will be needed to register users and perform the task of sending/receiving messages between users.
We are looking for a solution that looks/feels very similar to:
