(Code Correction) Android get correct Amplitude

I am writing an Activity that will record audio using Android's AudioRecord. I need two forms of output, I want to record audio live from MIC source and then output the Amplitude in Log.d. I have been experimenting with two forms of code but the real problem is that I do no really understand what is going on and so therefore can not trouble shoot it.
I would like the code fixed please and the output to the Log in dB please. Heavily comment your work.
This is a code correction and not a full project.
Payment will be completed upon testing of the code in my Eclipse.
Note: I was certain that the original data stored int he buffer would be in Pascals, then to convert to Decibels should have been easy. Now I am not sure it is Pascals anymore.
