Creative writing piece, "Legend of the Red Stiletto" for my online community. The legend should portray the “magic” that happens from wearing stilettos. Wearing stilettos give an attitude of “I want to continue looking great” instead of “I’m too old to care.” Legend can include obvious fictitious information but should motivate women of all ages to be proud of how they look. The Red Stiletto is a rebellion to the Red Hat Society, a community for women who proudly display their big red hats. Background information: I clearly remember sitting across the desk from a young professional in her business suit and heels in our business meeting. I just managed to make the appointment on time in my jeans, sweatshirt, and a little makeup. As I sat across from her¸ watching her demonstration, I vividly remember thinking to myself, “Boy, I sure have let myself go.” This thought echoed in my head so loudly that I didn’t catch the majority of her demonstration. Little did I know the impact this realization would have on me. I had to decide to whether to continue letting myself go or whether to take a different path. Suddenly, making myself presentable became very important to me. Shortly after, I came across a website (see below.) Information used on website, About Us Tab: I happened across a society; for women, my age. The society promises fun and friendship. Members pull out their most extravagant red hat and join together for an evening of dress up, meeting new friends, and lots of laughter. Realizing I’m the perfect age to join this society, I secretly think to myself, “If I’m going to look silly, I’d rather look silly in red stilettos.” I believe there are other women out there, like myself, who want to spend mid-life and beyond; looking sophisticated instead of frazzled. This website is for those type women to encourage each other towards our best during mid-life and beyond. It’s a place for us to connect¸ offer advice on numerous topics; and rate, recommend, and review, many products targeted for our age group. This is a place where you’ll find others who commit to living the rest of their life looking great. And yes, these girlfriends enjoy a girls’ night too. These friends won’t be sporting big red hats – but they just might be wearing red stilettos.
