Chemical equation balancer

I'm after a simple chemical equation balancing tool with a component database attached. The component database just needs to store: 1. Compoent name (eg Gypsum) 2. Component chemical formuala (eg CaSO4.3H2O) 3. Component phase (eg solid)- this needs to be a drop down box choice. The database must allow the user to add as many components as they desire and must ensure the components entered are possible (eg error if formula doesn't match letters from periodic table). The chemical equation is to balance the elements in the products and reactants of a chemical equation, as per below reaction. H2SO4 + CaCO3 = CaSO4 + CO2 + H2O or Fe2[SO4]3 + 6H2O = 2Fe[OH]3 + 3H2SO4 Each element is defined by one or two letters. The first letter is always a a capital and the second letter is always a lower case. All elements in the periodic table must be included/ allowed for in the equation balancer. All the elements on the reactant (left) side need to balance with all the elements on the product (right side). Number straights after an element indicate the how many of that element there are (eg Fe2[SO4]3 has two "Fe" in it.) Numbers outside square brakcets [] indicate there are multiples of every thing in the bracket (eg Fe2[SO4]3 has three "S" and 12 "O" in it) The user will define what the reactants and products are. The program needs to work out how many of each compent is requred for the elements to balance (eg work out that 6 x H2O are required in the above example and 2 x Fe[OH]3 are produced). A knowledge of high school chemistry would be beneficial. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). Deliverables: As per brief outline above plus 1. The program should first balance all elements using only the selected product and reactant components with the exception of oxygen (O) and hydrogen (H). 2. If there is insufficient hydrogren in the reactants, it should add water (H2O) to the reactant side. 3. If there is insufficient H on the product side it should add H2O to the product side. 4. If there is insufficient oxygen in the reactant side it should add O2 to the reactants side. 5. If there is insufficient O on the product side it should add O2 to the product side. 6. If the reaction cannot be balanced, it should report " error, components do not balance" or similar. ## Platform Needs to run in windows XP. Option 1 is to be run through windows explorer 6.0, prefer coded in Java or .net. Option 2 is to be a stand alone program again coded in java or .net.
