Custom Products in X-Cart

I run X-Cart. X-cart is a great tool, but I've found that it will cause me great trouble in the future as I add more products and options. I basically sell CUSTOM products. Each product, once you multiply it all, can give you many possible combinations. The problem is that the product options themselves will become outdated (out of stock, discontinued). This is a home design business similar to smithandnoble.com. While I am not looking specifically for any Adobe visual work, I AM looking for a way to be able to update the availability of certain product options across ALL products at once instead of doing each manually. i.e. If a fabric becomes discontinued, I'd like to have a page where I can uncheck it and it becomes instantly disabled for all products that previously offered it.
