Background: The program is written in VB6 using an access DB. The design allows a user to enter data that may need to be processed by a remote site. This communication may work in both directions. Each site is identified by a site ID if the processing is not for the local site it is processed by the comms module.
The program setup provides definition of the local site ID and the status of the site as Cental or Remote. If the site is remote the IP address of Central is provided.
If the site is Central it should be the PC with that IP.
Processing is. If the transaction is not for the local site and the site is central the transaction is held with a transaction status of OFFsite. If the transaction is not local and the PC is Remote the transaction is sent to the Central IP for processing. The remote site also monitors the central DB and if transactions there have the site ID for the remote the transaction is brought back to the remote site for processing.
Problem: On one site we are experiencing Socket error at times. We do not know why or what causes it. I need someone with:
Excellent skills in communications to review the software and possibly test it in a simulated environment to determine if there is a problem with the software or if it is the installation. The task will be determined as completed when we provide the information for an installation that works as described.
If anyone is interested I will provide details of the network installation and any other information required including access to the source code.
