Hi, I need to have an e-commerce web site finished. My programmer returned to university so could not finish it. Thanks for looking at the project. The initial description of the project was as follows: The site is going to be an e-commerce site that sells remanufactured laser and inkjet printer cartridges. I want the layout to be as simple as possible. Many of the sites are too "busy" and have too much information and too many links on one page. I want to make the ordering process as simple and logical as possible. I have the domain name of [login to view URL] and my web host is lunarpages.com. The shopping cart software program currently installed is Ruby on Rails. I have no preference with regards to which shopping cart is used although I would like it to interact with QuickBooks to some extent although even this is not essential. I have a supplier who is going to store and ship the products for me. When a customer places an order on my site, my supplier will need to receive an e-mail from the site with the order information such as Customer Name, mailing address, products and quantity ordered. I would like this process to happen automatically without any input from me. My supplier will then send an e-mail to me once the items have been shipped to confirm the shipment and to give a tracking number. I would like the customer to receive this information automatically too. However, it cannot be the same e-mail from my supplier to me because that would include my supplier's information such as name, address etc. I do not want my customers knowing my supplier's information. As far as my customers know, it is me personally sending them the products. The products are shipped to the customers with my company name and address on the packing labels. The product list is going to be quite large, that is, several hundred products. I am open to suggestions on how best to manage this list. Whether it be a database or spreadsheet etc. Prices are going to change from time to time on some products so I would like to be able to change certain prices fairly easily. Also I will need to be able to add and delete products. When someone buys a printer they normally keep it for a while. Consequently, return customers are probably going to buy a cartridge that they have bought from me before. Rather than take the time to search for their cartridge again and enter their personal information again, I would like it if they could login and once they are logged in, they will see the cartridges they have bought before and their personal information will already have been entered so basically with a couple of clicks, they can place an order. Just in case they need to search for a different cartridge, because most people seem to have more than one printer these days, they will also be able to search the site etc once they have logged in. At this time there will be three categories. Laser cartridges, inkjet cartridges and copier toner. I will want a database of customer information for marketing purposes etc. However, things have changed a bit. I have one corporation Dot E Biz Inc. [login to view URL] and several DBA's. One of them is www.boltoner.com. (See project guidlines above) I will want each DBA to eventually have their own website but the shopping cart will go through dotebiz.com. The programmer who has been writing the script gave the following as a description of the work flow: This is the workflow: 1. Cart created on Boltoner. 2. Checkout button clicked. 3. Redirected to Dotebiz for payment with SSL with cart_id. 4. Dotebiz queries [login to view URL] through webservice. This retrieves the total in the cart and the user information. 5. Payment received and thank you page displayed. 6. Boltoner is notified that a new order was placed. This order is saved in the database. 7. Supplier is notified that a new order has been saved. 8. You are notified too. You can log into Dotebiz to retrieve a huge list of all the orders that have been placed. This uses a webservice that connects to Boltoner (and any other sites you own). (Note, you can also log into the Boltoner site to see products and orders placed in the that site.) The website design is still not finished. Links to the current design are below. [login to view URL] [login to view URL] [login to view URL] [login to view URL] [login to view URL] [login to view URL] [login to view URL] I already have a merchant account with [login to view URL] and the shopping cart is Ruby on Rails.
