The objective of this assignment is to develop a complete, cohesive, and cogent set of visualizations to convey meaningful insights regarding the differences in the nature of the impact that two exogenous phenomena that have had significant impacts on all aspects of individual, social, and economic life in the United States and across the world. These are the Great Recession (Dec 2007-Jun 2009) and the COVID pandemic in 2020. To manage scope, Identify two dimensions of interest to you (for example - education, employment, public health, real estate, or financial markets). Discuss the relative impact on these dimensions, using data from any 3 US states (or 3 countries if you wish) that have distinct characteristics in terms of population, employment, and exposure. For example, a valid argument is that the population characteristics (such as age, size, density, and diversity) are very different between California, Florida, and North Carolina. Hence it is reasonable to compare the impact of the phenomena on these states. Build experience working with a variety of different data sources, formats, etc Develop visualizations that explore multiple aspects of a problem context. Group visualizations into dashboards that inform a specific aspect of the problem context. Link visualizations and dashboards into Storyboards or dashboards that describe the impact and the nature of recovery of the US socio-economic landscape along the two dimensions you have selected. When working with Geo Fred, select the data type and units before downloading since these selections affect the data in the download. Data files including time series describing median home prices and rental rates may be of particular interest. Data on labor markets is available at the Bureau of Labor Statistics ([login to view URL] Links to an external site.) and the Bureau of Economic Analysis ([login to view URL] to an external site.). These data sources might be useful for this activity. Use at least 4 visualizations on your dashboard to tell your story. Annotate liberally and use the dashboard to highlight the explanations and themes you want to communicate. In your dashboard, look to communicate time series analysis and trends from related data from multiple sources, which together communicate and explain (not correlate or cause) the concurrent or cascading nature of the economic phenomenon, both national and individual - macro and micro. Collect your narratives and related annotations into a report (Word or PDF) and communicate the process and findings. Please present the report in the form of an annotated narrative, not a list of bullet points with numbers or bullets ONLY. You are required to submit the following on Canvas: ONE Zip file containing your R Studio Project. Make sure this includes all your data files and scripts/code. An MSWord or PDF Document that contains an annotated narrative of your insights and inferences about the impact of COVID and the great recession on leading and relevant dimensions you have selected. It is expected that your narrative will be between 1 to 2 pages long - WITH annotated tables and figures if any.
