Hi! I have a proposition for you to create this device using some MCU (microcontroller) as controlling unit with build in ADC to monitor battery state, it also will work as a timer, information displayed on simple LCD, plus buttons to establish required values. This MCU will control Relays to switch motors. This all on a single PCB, or separate them, one for control, another for power stage. I have experience work with MCU, PCB and schematic design. Hi I will do that circuit for you with an small and cheap mcu controller as a simple timer, guessing that you don't need it to have RTC with days and calendar settings. If that's the case then it's simple. Only thing you have not clarify at your description is about how you want to set the timer and what is the required timer maximum settings ie. from 0.1S up to 600S or what? And of course the time minimum "step". Feel free to contact me for further clarifications

In order to use a limit sensor or a timer to control the motion of the DC motors, It is required to have a micro controller that acknowledges the reading of sensor or the data from the timer and take a decision accordingly. There are a lot of mircro-controllers in the market, arduino and PIC. but I usually use arduino as it has its programming circuit printed in the same board with the micro-controller IC. After that the micro-controller will use to send electrical signals to activate switches ( on/off ) that allow or stop the electric current from flowing to the motor. Available circuits for this purposes are called H-bridge circuits. Finally, a PCB circuit can be designed using Eagle software.
