I've been working with Drupal since 2006 and I've been approved as a module contributor so I'm familiar with best practices. I've written dozens of modules, including a few for D8. I could modify that module and then contribute a patch if you want, or I can just create a new custom module for your own use. How does the module break the rest of the site?
