Voting remote controls

I need to design remote control with 6 buttons. Every remote control will have unique ID. When pressing one of it's button (1-6), it will send the selected button to a computer. It should be with longest range as possible (ZigBee ?). Also, the computer should handling 10's or maybe more of this remote control pressing **_together_**. Maybe the computer will cause the remotes to send the information one by one with small delay between each other. Anyway all the information should be received on 1 computer in a short time (seconds). The simple solution I tought about is that the computer will signal to which remote control he is waiting : The computer waits for remote control number 1 until it send it's selection, then for number 2 until the maximum number of remote controls exists. This is my idea - hope you have a better one... :) When the voting starts the pc will send "start" signal to all active remotes. Each remote will start a internal timer. When button will be pressed the pc will collect the choosen button and how much time it took - until it was pressed.
